Shalom Notes is built to be private by design. It is free, shows no ads, and never sells your information.
When you create an account, your notes, tags, folders, and app settings are stored securely in your account so they can sync between your devices. They are protected by row-level security, which means your notes are readable by your account and no one else's. A copy is also kept on your device so the app works offline.
Your account is your email address and a password. We use them only to sign you in and to send you password-reset emails you request. We never send marketing email.
When you read a Bible translation that is not built into the app, the book, chapter, and verse you request are sent to a public Bible text service (bible-api.com) to retrieve the passage — never your notes. The King James Version and Bible in Basic English are stored inside the app and need no internet.
The AI study helper is optional. It only runs when you open it and agree to the on-screen notice, and it does nothing until you ask a question.
What is sent: when you ask the AI a question, the app sends the text you are asking about — the Bible passage you are reading, or the note you are viewing (its title and text) — together with your typed question.
Who it is sent to: that text is transmitted through our own secure server (hosted on Vercel) to Google’s Gemini AI (Google LLC), which generates the response that is returned to you.
How it is used: the data is used only to generate your answer in that moment. It is not used to show you advertising, is not sold, and is not used to build a profile of you. Google processes the request as a data processor under its API terms and does not use Gemini API content to train its models. We do not store your questions on our server beyond the time needed to return the answer.
If you never open the AI study helper, or decline the notice, none of your notes or questions are sent to the AI service.
Settings → Delete my account permanently erases your account and all your notes from the cloud. There is no waiting period and no hidden copy.
